[nb-NO]Creator[nb-NO]Feng Zikai
[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]Feng Zikai was born in Tongxiang in the Zhejiang province of China. He learned art from an early age under the tutelage of artist and poet Li Shutong, and graduated from Hangzhou High School. In 1929 he left for Japan to further his studies. Upon returning to China, Feng taught art and music in Shanghai, Zhejiang and Chongqing. Feng was an influential artist and illustrator, and also wrote extensively on literature, painting, music and calligraphy.
Rendered in the style of his famous collections Zikai Cartoons (子恺画集) and Children’s Cartoons (儿童漫画), this painting uses distinctive cartoon style as a visual language in vernacular education. Borrowing a line from a Song dynasty poem by Lu You, the work is titled Spring Comes First to the Home of Peasants:
The gardener picks cucumbers by the trellis
The village girl picks blossoms along the fence.
The city still feels the remnant warmth of summer
Autumn comes first to the home of the peasants.
园丁傍架摘黄瓜,村女沿篱采碧花。城市尚余三伏热,秋光先到野人家。” —— 宋·陆游《秋怀》
注:丰子恺先生将此诗最后一句改为:“春光先到野人家”
