Sabapathy notes that Ng’s works demonstrate ‘significant’ departures from the prevailing aesthetic drive which was directed towards creating untroubled, idyllic images of nature; in Eng Teng’s pictures there are intimations of disequilibrium’ (Sabapathy 1998:45).
