BeschrijvingBatik produced in the northwest Sumatran coastal town of Jambi were often called "kain batik Lasem" because of their similarity to Lasaem batik which were exported to Sumatra. The geometric repeates in the centre-field recall the jelamprang (eight-pointed) motif in patola (silk double ikat) as well as the interlocking octagons and squares commonly featured in ajarakh from Rajasthan. The transverse borders consist of floral scrolls and a row of tumpal (triangular motifs) filled with vines. Whilst one border is predominantly red the other is indigo blue and off-white. The narrow lateral borders are also one half red and the other off-white. This is therefore a pagi-sore ("morning-evening") type of batik where the red border is worn outermost during the day and the blue-and-off-white at night.
