[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]Liu Haisu was much inspired by Western art. Although he advocated the modernisation of Chinese art, he did not reject native painting traditions. He was influenced in the native traditions by Shitao (1642 - 1707) of the early Qing period. Liu Haisu also learned from the Western modernist masters, especially the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. As one of the founders of the Shanghai Academy of Art, Liu Haisu helped establish the use of nude models in Chinese art education.
