[nb-NO]Title[nb-NO]3 Piece Wooden Lacquer Container (Lotus Design)
[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]The Peranakan Chinese in Palembang, Indonesia used a type of container called tenong for delivering wedding gifts.
For this tenong, the top box is constructed in the shape of a lotus flower. It is stacked on
a base which is also a container that is larger. Small floral patterns in gold once covered the whole surface, but the gilding has all but rubbed off. The tenong is painted with a resinous substance referred to as the ‘lacquer of Palembang’.
