[nb-NO]Creator[nb-NO]Ng Eng Teng (1934 – 2001)
[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]Ng Eng Teng adapted his teacher, Cheong Soo Pieng's concept of pictorial composition based on Cezanne's multi viewpoint approach, combined with the formal and technical language of traditional Chinese painting. Still Life with Ayer Jambu addresses the Chinese hanging scroll format by combining strong, vigorous brush strokes with a western style modelling of solid forms and colour application. The tilt of the table, an indeterminate shallow background and the treatment of the jug to show hidden underlying structure and form are features pertinent to Cubism.
