CreatoreLim Yew Kuan (1929)
Descrizione“This particular woodblock print diverges from the usual subject matter concerning social issues. It is a self-portrait of the artist. However, the close attention to detail as seen in the distinct facial features of the artist, as well as the potted plants in the background adheres strictly to belief shared by artists from the Equator Art Society (which Lim was a part of) that art must be firmly grounded in reality.” (Crossroads: The Making of New Identities, Page 25).
A full-face frontal view self-portrait in an interior setting as indicated by a bookcase and the painting hanging above it. Lim Yew Kuan is a painter, sculptor and printmaker. He is the son of Lim Hak Tai, the first principal of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. LIm Yew Kuan painted the official portrait of Singapore's first President, Yusoff bin Ishak. He was also commissioned to do abust of the President.
