TitoloA Rural Scene
CreatoreTan Khim Ser (1943)
Descrizione“Paying close attention to the appearance of life in A Rural Scene, Tan transports the viewer back on a nostalgic journey to early Singapore. Myriad colours and washes bring the scene back to life in the consciousness of viewers and convey the emotive essence of his work. Following the sloping composition, the viewer's eye falls naturally on the flowerpots in bloom, a powerful element of thriving life in the work.”
(Crossroads: The Making of New Identities, Page 56).
Man raking leaves outside his home compound. It is a mundane subject in a rural setting. The non-descript houses in the background have little aesthetic value, and the way they are clustered together is no help in stimulating interest. It is a straight forward recording of an observed reality with minimal inpout from the artist, emotionally as well as intellectually.
