TitoloFlautist
DescrizioneFlautist almost floating in air, unusually depicted from its back. Such beautiful flexions and rendering of the planes of the back and bent legs in an attentive position, are seldom paralleled in Indian sculpture. It has been observed that depicting a figure from the back is attempted during the period of 10th-12th centuries and its best examples are found at Khajuraho. Looking closely at the figure from the side allows us an impression of the face. This has been carved high relief to accentuate the mouth and nose. Such exceptional detaiils of carving are unusual to fathom if one were to see the sculpture in situ.
