Bibliography:Sarkasi Said (1940 – 2021) received the 2020 Cultural Medallion for contributions to promoting batik as an art form. He was born in 1940 and primarily brought up by grandparents who occasionally traded textiles. He had always been interested in art from school days, but became exposed to the medium more intensively when he worked for the commercial batik producer Shahab. By the 1970s he had begun to participate in exhibitions at the Malay Art Centre, coming to the attention of the National Museum, staging the exhibition Big and Bold in 1979.
