TitreFlowers & Bamboo
CréateurNai Swee Leng
Description“Completed in early 1996, Flowers and Bamboo is dedicated to the Lee Kong Chian Art Gallery in NUS Museums. The bamboo is one of the most valued subject matter of the Chinese literati; it symbolises strength of character, especially under duress. Executed with uncharacteristic restrain, the controlled boldness of the brushstrokes that make up the living
elements in the painting bequeaths life force and vitality. Compositional unity is completed by the rock, a symbol of stability from which the living elements spring forth. Through a composition as such, Bamboo also expresses eloquently the artist's wishes for growth and maturity for the Museum.”
