DescripciónLOTUS BLOSSOM, colour on silk, hanging scroll, 175x50cm By Yu Sheng Zengsan Luting (18th century), a court painter of Qianlong period (1735-1795), signed "Painted reverently by your servant Yu Sheng with one small seal "Yu Sheng" in relief. At Yu's time there were several jesuit artists from Europe working at imperial cour. It is evident Yu's art had come under their influence. Starting from the foreground, aquatic pplants, both on the furface of the water or submerged, seen in the more open right side where water is more in evidence, with all the lotus blossom predominating the left two-thirds of the scroll, it being done in a elaborately naturalistic manner in fine brushwork and colour, creating a three dimentional effect, rare in traditional Chinese painting.
