Beschreibung“Torse … vivify ways by which the body is presented as fragements or as partial entities. The body is subjected to sustained crisis; it can no longer be seen, be shown, as automonous,as a whole and integrated being. It is reduced, deformed, reformed and appears as configurations far removed from conforming to an ideal or to nature. These tendencies are hoisted into heightened levels in the 1990s, when figures appear as objects of suppression and shame. Torso demonstrates a reductive approach to representing the figure; hips and lower limbs are gathered into a compact mass and are consolidated as a stump. The pace of delineation alters as we cast our attention upwards, vertically; the figure assumes a form analogous to a slender tree trunk which ends abruptly, as an indecisive terminus.” (Bodies & Figures, An Overview of Ng Eng Teng, Page 18).
