By the 1970s he had begun to participate in exhibitions at the Malay Art Centre Sarkasi Said (1940 – 2021) received the 2020 Cultural Medallion for contributions to promoting batik as an art form. He was born in 1940 and primarily brought up by grandparents who occasionally traded textiles.
