The colours were fixed by the use of mordants applied by block printing, except for indigo blue which was achieved by the wax-resist process. “The western state of Gujarat and the eastern Coromandel Coast were the production centres of printed and painted, mordant resist-dyed trade cloths. These cloths were made for specific markets.
