الوصفThis large tetile is composed of wide trasverse bands. Rampant lions derived from the Dutch coat of arms, and skull trees are depicted in rust red, indigo, off-whtie and a dark purple.
“Warp ikat was produced in interior regions and those that lay outside the trade routes, away from foreign contact and influences. It belongs to indigenous traditions reaching back to Neolithic cultures; the meaning of much of its imagery, however, is now lost. The warp ikat from Savu, Flores and other parts of Indonesia have longitudinal stripe patterning. Only those from Sumba feature wide trasverse bands with large, bold patterns.” (Past, Present , Beyond: Re-nascence of an Art Collection, Page 45)
