DescripciónA series of drawings depicting rural economic activities of ancient China were published as a book during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. Eventually these pictures were copied onto ink-sticks.
The drawing on this ink-stick came from the series of drawings published. It illustrates part of the weaving process known as Shangji (working on the loom). The front of the ink-stick shows weavers in a workshop against a backdrop of a garden and landscape scene.
On the reverse side is a poem made up of four lines with seven characters in each line. It describes the importance of a good beginning and dedication when undertaking any task, just as in weaving which involves working with thousands of silk threads.
