It illustrates part of the weaving process known as Shangji (working on the loom). The front of the ink-stick shows weavers in a workshop against a backdrop of a garden and landscape scene. On the reverse side is a poem made up of four lines with seven characters in each line. It describes the importance of a good beginning and dedication when undertaking any task, just as in weaving which involves working with thousands of silk threads.
