НазваниеPlants (Darkened) (Set of 7 pcs) - 1 of 7
Создатель an artist Heman Chong, curator and writer, was born 1977 in Muar, Malaysia and raised in Singapore. He graduated with an MA in communication art and design from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2002. His art practice involves an investigation into the philosophies, reasons and methods of individuals and communities imagining the future. Charged with a conceptual drive, this research is then adapted into objects, images, installations, situations or texts. Heman Chong’s Plants(Darkened) (2008) is an installation that is made up of seven pots of black artificial plants, arranged in a row within a semidarkened space. Angeline Ooi, an NUS student, suggests that Heman Chong’s rendition of artificial plants is a reference to the rise of gardens. Trimmed, cultivated and perfected, the garden can be seen as a symbol of man’s desire to recreate nature. Walking inside this darkened space, one feels curiosity mingled with a fear of the unknown, and a sense of blindness. The barely lit installation with its darkened plants provokes questions of the future of mankind. Has nature been destroyed, irradiated, charred? Heman Chong’s Plants epitomizes the transient nature of matter, space, and time. Heman Chong has held solo exhibitions at NUS Museum (Singapore), Rossi & Rossi (London), Kunstverein Milano (Milan), Motive Gallery (Amsterdam), Hermes Third Floor (Singapore), Vitamin Creative Space (Guangzhou), Art In General (New York), Project Arts Centre (Dublin), Ellen de Bruijne Projects (Amsterdam), The Substation (Singapore), Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), Sparwasser HQ (Berlin). He has also participated in various group exhibitions at the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Kroeller-Muller Museum, Stedelijk Museum Bureau, Nam June Paik Art Center, Gertrude Contemporary, Arnolfini, Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Hamburger Bahnhof, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Kadist Foundation, and the Daejeon Museum of Art. Heman Chong’s works have been shown at international biennales including 6th Momentum Biennale (2011), Manifesta 8 (2010), 2nd Singapore Biennale (2008), SCAPE Christchurch Biennale (2006), Busan Biennale (2004), 10th India Triennale (2000). He also represented Singapore in the 50th Venice Biennale (2003).Heman Chong
