Описание“Old buildings especially in Chinatown were always a constant source of inspiration for local painters. In Street Scene, the pictorial subject was depicted with an intention to capture the rugged lives and activities within the pre-war houses. Having positioned himself in the middle of the lane, the artist attempts to capture the human activities, surrounded by blocks of dilapidated pre-war houses. His portrayal of its rundown facade is both sensitive and thought-provoking.” (Crossroads: The Making of New Identities, Page 43). An early batik painting of a Chinatown scene with trishaw rider, a few figures, and some empty stall. The colours have faded somewhat, but the allure of Kim Joo's decorative and colourful style remains. Seak Kim Joo later became very successful businessman and art collector.
