TitlePeranakan Brown & Gold Teakwood Wardrobe
DescriptionBrown-and-gold furniture was a later addition to the Peranakan Chinese home, makings its appearance towards the early 20th century. On them, we see a convergence of designs from the Chinese and European traditions. Cresting and cornices which are derived from Western classical architecture were incorporated by local carpenters as a part of the brown-and-gold aesthetics. For embellishing this style of furniture, conventional Chinese elements such as the dragon, phoenix and peony were matched with the eagle, gargoyle, and a new variety of foliage.
