DescriptionCOVERED DING with ovoid-form bowl, three long, slender "hoofed" legs topped with animal masks in high relief,two high, squarish handles attached at opposite side on the outside of the mouth rim, mildly domed cover with three flat, upright, stylized, animal motifs spaced at equidistance around the outer zone and an upright square knop riveted at the centre; heavy encrustations overlaying the impressed shallow designs on the cover, showing only in small parts zones of faintly visible interlacing "hui" (highly stylized miniature dragons) pattern separated by rope-patterned dividers; either side of the handles also decorated with rope pattern; on the outside of the bowl two broad bands of stylized dancing dragons on grained ground, separated by a thick raised line in rope fashion; on the base of the ovoid bowl, the fine joints of the three-pirece mould for casting the bowl clearly visible as radiating from a point in the centre and up the sides.
